Truck crossing into opposite traffic caused fiery Poway crash that killed 5
A tow truck on state Highway carts away part of the wreckage after the collision that killed five in Poway Friday File hoto courtesy of OnScene TV Investigators on Tuesday issued the results of a preliminary look into how three vehicles collided last week killing five people in Poway Three people perished in a Toyota Tacoma while one driver died in a Chevrolet Silverado and another in a Honda Civic according to the San Diego County Sheriff s Office No one survived the wreck At around p m Friday the driver of the dark-colored Silverado traveling northbound on state Road north of Iron Mountain Drive crossed over into oncoming traffic at a high rate of speed The Silverado collided with a white Civic traveling southbound on SR- The Tacoma traveling southbound was unable to stop and hit the Civic The force of the collision sparked a small brush fire along the highway which firefighters swiftly had under control There was nothing however that medics could do for the motorists Each person succumbed to their injuries at the scene Sheriff s authorities revealed in a news release Deputies from the Poway Sheriff s Station are still researching what caused the Silverado to cross into oncoming traffic They are also reviewing video from a passing car that captured the collision The San Diego County Healthcare Examiner s Office has yet to release the identities of those killed in the crash
